Gyokusendo x Tea Dealers Collaboration Chashaku
Our collaboration with Gyokusendo studio and its craftsman, Junichi Suda, led to the production of a one-of-a-kind tea utensil, combining both of our expertise- meeting the stringent Senke tea schools' standards for chashaku sets and incorporating the time-honored traditions of Gyokusendo's master craftsmen.
The chashaku is a stalwart tool in the tea ceremony, transporting the leaves from their canisters to their appropriate brewing vessels. Crafted from bamboo, ivory, wood, and lacquer, with each iteration possessing a unique beauty, these tea scoops were held in high esteem even in the days of Rikyu, given poetic names and stored in bespoke boxes as the first true expressions of Wabi Sabi artistry.
The Arigoshi, or "ant waist," is a type of tea scoop featuring a high bamboo node carefully sculpted in its center, creating a silhouette akin to an ant's slender form - an aesthetic said to have originated from Sen Rikyu.
