As the name suggests, it is a playful kettle shaped like Japan's quintessential citrus. The surface was skillfully made to match the yuzu's texture using large sand grains. The lid is highlighted with a knob resembling the tree branch connected to the fruit. The unique iron wrought handle “fukurohan” is made by folding a flat sheet into a cylinder and does not conduct heat, remaining cool to the touch. The mushikui details on the handle perfectly balance with the organic shape of the knob on the lid resembling a tree branch connected to the fruit.
Each piece is crafted by hand from a single sand-cast mold, where the intricate design and texture are pressed into place. The kettle-making process revolves entirely around the mold, utilizing tools and stamps passed down through generations, ensuring a touch of traditional artistry in every modern piece. The mold is then expertly formed and designed before molten iron is poured in, left to cool and solidify for several days, and finally freed from its sand womb. Due to the high demand for Morihisa tetsubin, there is a waitlist of 2-3 years, making our selection the largest available for immediate.
*When placing the kettle on the stove, using the smallest burner, keeping the flame on medium/low to avoid flames climbing up the sides and leaving marks on the kettle.
