Fan Lin, born in 1987, has been dedicated to the creation, design, and development of purple clay artworks since graduating from the Ceramic Art Department. Having been exposed to purple clay pot making from an early age, he studied under Master Yan Wei, a National-level Senior Arts and Crafts Artist, focusing on ribbed clay pot shapes and developing a strong foundation in pottery. He has also received guidance from numerous renowned masters and has earnestly understood the importance of lines and the relationship between proportions in pot artistry. His works feature smooth lines and innovative shapes, blending traditional essence with modern creativity and combining practicality with aesthetic appeal. They have won awards in various national art competitions and are highly valued by collectors both domestically and internationally.
The name reflects its origin and appearance: "Yuankuang" (原矿) means "original ore," signifying it is made from pure, unmodified clay directly mined from the earth. "Zhuni" (朱泥), meaning "vermilion clay," refers to its vibrant red hue after firing. Zhuni is regarded as the rarest and most exceptional Zisha clay. Unlike the more prevalent Zini (purple clay), Zhuni is not found in large, deep deposits but as a thin rock vein formed millions of years ago on mountainsides.
This clay is very dense and low-porosity. It is prized for its ability to retain heat and "raise the aroma" of tea. Pairs best with high-aroma Oolongs and the top choice for Phoenix Dancong and High-mountain Oolongs (such as Tieguanyin). The fine-grained structure helps trap the volatile aromatic compounds. Secondary Pairings: Black Tea and aged White Tea
There is an artistic and functional standard for evaluating Yixing teapots that refines the tea-making process solely based on appearance. After considering the material's quality, a balance exists between beauty and function. As tea lovers, we are drawn to shapes and styles that enhance the flavor of tea. These classic, refined shapes provide a perfect canvas for creating a deep luster and patina over time.
