Jian Fang Sun is a national arts and crafts artist who began working in the purple clay industry in 1991. Her first teacher was Wang Caiying, and she was later instructed and supervised by Master Cheng Hui. Shui Ping is the quintessential shape and a must-have vessel for any tea enthusiast.
Golden Zhuni Clay is a rare, high-grade variant of Yixing zhuni clay, known for its distinctive golden-yellow raw ore, its vibrant red-orange fired color, and the exceptional (but challenging) teapots it produces. Pairs best with Green Tea and Light Oolongs. It is ideal for teas that benefit from lower heat retention to prevent scalding, such as Longjing (Dragon Well) or Bi Luo Chun (Spring Snail).
Secondary Pairings: Sheng Pu-erh and White Tea, as the clay mellows the astringency.
There is an artistic and functional standard for evaluating Yixing teapots that refines the tea-making process solely based on appearance. After considering the material's quality, a balance between beauty and function emerges. As tea lovers, we are drawn to shapes and styles that enhance the flavor of tea. These classic, refined shapes provide a perfect canvas for creating a deep luster and patina over time.
