Ryutagama
The Ryutagama kiln, established in 1974 by Takashi Nakazato- son of the national living treasure Nakazato Toraemon 12th (Muan)- is located in Karatsu, Japan. The Nakazato lineage boasts 16 generations of potters, tracing their craft back to the late 1300s.
The studio currently consists of three generations of skilled ceramicists working together: the celebrated ceramic artist Takashi Nakazato, his son and current studio head Taki Nakazato, and Taki's son Kenta. Karatsu ceramics showcase a variety of traditional styles, including unglazed fire-scorched Nanban, painted E-garatsu, and white slip Kohiki.
