Xi shang mei shao, “joy rising to the brows,” is a Chinese blessing for happiness so great it shows on one’s face. It is traditionally painted as a magpie, the bird of joy, perched on a blossoming plum branch.
Da Hong Pao, the “Big Red Robe,” is the most celebrated name in Wuyi rock tea, and its blending is a true test of a master. This Da Hong Pao brings together select cultivars grown in the Zhengyan core of the Wuyi Mountains, then finishes them with a patient, expert roast. The result is elegant and layered, with the mineral depth of yanyun (岩韻) and a long, warming finish. It reflects decades of skill in the hands of Master Ye Ruyu (叶如玉), founder of Yan Zhu and sister of Master Ye Qitong (叶启桐).
In 2026 we celebrate our ninth year working with the Ye family of Wuyishan: Master Ye Qitong, who led the creation of the national standard samples for Wuyi Yancha, and his sister Master Ye Ruyu, founder of Yan Zhu. We are honored to serve as the first exclusive international ambassador of Master Ye Qitong’s brand.
