千家寨古树 Harvested and processed 2022, Pressed August 10, 2023
The ancient tea trees of Qian Jia Zhai are located within the primordial forests of the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve. This is one of the largest, most primitive, and well-preserved forest ecosystems where tea trees are a dominant species. The tea trees coexist with surrounding trees, plants, animals, and microorganisms in a complex, stable ecosystem. They grow without human intervention (like pruning or fertilizing), following purely natural rhythms. The dense vegetation provides a thick layer of fallen leaves and branches. This organic matter decomposes into a rich humus layer, providing tea trees with a complete and natural source of nutrients.
Qian Jia Zhai is situated at high altitudes, usually between 2,100 and 2,500 meters. There are notable diurnal temperature variations between day and night. Intense photosynthesis occurs during daylight, while growth slows at night, allowing trees to accumulate amino acids, aromatic oils, and other complex compounds. This process results in a tea with a more fragrant, intricate, and mellow flavor. The high mountains are often enveloped in clouds and mist, which naturally filter intense sunlight, preventing the leaves from becoming tough and yielding bitterness.
What makes Qian Jia Zhai Sheng Puerh so special is its pristine ecology, ancient tea trees, full-bodied and powerful taste with a lingering aftertaste, and significant aging potential. It is often considered a "hidden gem" or a legendary tea for experienced tea drinkers.
