正岩曼陀岩肉桂 · Zhengyan Mantuo Yan Rougui
Chong’an Legacy Collection
Mantuo Yan (曼陀岩) is a cliff site in the Zhengyan core of the Wuyi Mountains, between the famed gullies of Niulankeng and Huiyuankeng. Rougui takes its name from its aroma, which recalls Chinese cinnamon (cassia, 肉桂). A vigorous cultivar, it absorbs the character of wherever it grows, so the soil and setting shape every cup. That makes a true Zhengyan site like Mantuo Yan especially prized.
What sets this Rougui apart is the fire. After the initial drying, the leaves are roasted twice over lychee-wood charcoal embers. It is a slow, traditional method that takes years to master: enough heat to deepen and caramelize the leaf’s natural sweetness, without scorching it or leaving it under-dried. Picked from 60-year-old bushes and crafted under Master Ye Ruyu (叶如玉), founder of Yan Zhu and sister of Master Ye Qitong (叶启桐), it is one of the finest expressions of this celebrated oolong.
Rougui runs deep in the Ye family: its patriarch, Ye Xianshun (叶先顺), championed the cultivar’s planting at the state Chong’an Tea Farm.
In 2026 we celebrate our ninth year working with the Ye family of Wuyishan: Master Ye Qitong, who led the creation of the national standard samples for Wuyi Yancha, and his sister Master Ye Ruyu, founder of Yan Zhu. We are honored to serve as the first exclusive international ambassador of Master Ye Qitong’s brand.
