Special Edition Black Satin pieces are created by burying a white piece in a pile of rice husks and pit-firing it in a special "Saya" kiln. Only a small number can be fired at a time, and the unique patterns and gradation on the surface are the scorch marks left by the rice husks. Each piece is unique!
Kiyoko Morioka is an acclaimed art scholar focused on Kutani porcelain, a traditional craft. Her work features a delicate, semi-translucent design that emphasizes the stark beauty of Kanazawa's clay, avoiding the ornate details typical of signature Kutani ware. Each piece is wheel-thrown with precise craftsmanship, highlighting the clay's robustness, texture, and vibrant shine. Drawing inspiration from her studies in Denmark, Morioka blends traditional forms with modern touches. Her porcelain’s velvety texture results from a special technique, giving it a luxurious feel and an ultra-thin rim ideal for enjoying tea. The translucent designs let the deep color of brewed tea shine through, offering a captivating visual experience.
