Ichibancha refers to the first spring harvest in Japan, comprising close to ninety percent of the year's total tea yield. Gathered solely from the stems and rough leaves of the first picks, this houjicha has undergone a custom-ordered, short, high-temperature roasting process, yielding green and yellow leaves and deepening the fragrance and sweetness with loads of umami. A golden-hued tea brews from it, its creamy aroma filling the air. Its taste is sharp yet gentle, the astringency barely perceptible and fading with each steeping, making for an ideal beverage to savor at length.
