Jie Ping Lu is a renowned China National Arts and Crafts artist and member of China Arts and Crafts Association. Born in a Dingshan pottery family, he started to systematically learn pottery making when he was a child. In 1993, he entered the Zisha No. 1 Factory to learn Zisha pottery carving and glaze painting and after continuous study and research, his skills have been further improved. Under the careful guidance of Yao Chen Lu, he has absorbed the strength and essence of many masters and integrated them into his own works.
The degree of thickness for this clay is 50mm with a shrinkage ratio of 40% which makes it difficult to masterfully shape the clay during production. The color is bright red with a mysterious wet luster. When firing, it is easy to wrinkle, crack, collapse, deform and the kiln temperature control is extremely precise which normally results in a 30% loss. The ringing sound of the clay is a great achievement. After firing, the texture of the clay is dense, firm, yet delicate while the color changes greatly after bathing with hot water, showing a reddish-purple color. There is both an artistic and functional standard for evaluating Yixing teapots, and it should refine tea making by appearance alone. As we are tea-lovers, our proclivity is for shapes and styles that aid in making tea well. There should be a balance between beauty and function after quality. These classic, simple shapes are a perfect canvas to create a deep luster and patina over time.
