Teapot specialists are a very rare breed! Teapot making requires a lot of experience, skill, and work ethics. Each part (body, spout, strainer, lid, and handle) of a teapot is wheel thrown and made independently. Wood-fired teapots are the most difficult because the results are unpredictable and at least 30% of them are destroyed in the high heat. However, the pieces that do make it through the trial of fire are magnificent. Every single kyusu is one of a kind and filled with character. The salt glazing technique results in a rainbow of colors and gives these perfect pieces a life of their own. Don't be fooled, they are perfect tools! Despite the appearance, they are incredibly lightweight, pour perfectly, and will make every pot of tea taste better than the next!
