Composed of 99% tin and 1% silver, Japanese pewter is sublimely suited for the consumption of food and beverages, not only enduringly retaining its radiance, form, and luster but also its complexity - all without the necessity of frequent polishing as with silver.
An aesthetic tea scoop (Chasago or ChaZe 茶则) crafted from pewter is used in traditional Chinese tea ceremonies, designed to weigh and display tea and assist with the use of a tea pick in transferring the tea into the narrow mouth of a teapot. The simplistic silver structure emphasizes the vibrancy of the tea leaves, while the Sugime (Cypress bark) pattern with its refined details and delightful weight bestows a sense of character.
