The wait is over! Our farmers have finally been able to return to picking and making tea and after two years we have finally received our first shipment. The pandemic significantly affected the Darjeeling area, and most tea production came to a complete halt. We are very happy to be able to continue to support and work with this producer and hope that you will enjoy this amazingly fragrant and deeply satisfying tea.
After the liberalization of the tea plantation laws in Darjeeling in the 90s, regular citizens were finally allowed to plant tea seeds and establish farms to make money. For the last twenty years, it has been a difficult venture since local farmers don't have the resources to sell their product directly to consumers and end up selling their leaves to larger producers for very little money. We have pledged our support to this group so that they can prosper and continue to bring to the world an incredibly beautiful and natural Indian black tea.
Wild Tree Darjeeling is grown in a completely natural environment without the use of any chemicals or even machinery. It is a labor of love by an indigenous tea-picking family and their friends to create a livelihood for their children. The tea is picked by hand in very small batches (micro lots) and roasted over wood-fired pans. The smoke of the fire is indirectly absorbed by the fresh leaves creating a distinct taste and aroma that complements the signature floral muscatel notes of Darjeeling tea.
Please enjoy neat, with lemon & honey, or a splash of your favorite milk!
